A dental bridge is made by putting crowns (caps) on the teeth at either side of a space, and then joining these two crowns together by placing a false tooth in the space. This procedure can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. This is all made in the laboratory and then the pieces are cemented into place with special adhesives. A bridge can't be removed.
Bridges are only possible if the teeth adjacent to the gap are strong with good bone support and if the gap is not too long. Bridges also require a serious commitment to oral hygiene. Your dentist will help you decide which the best way of replacing missing teeth is.
Bridges can:
* Restore your smile
* Restore your ability to properly chew and speak
* Maintain the shape of your face
* Distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth
* Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
